Everything you need to know about waxing

There are a few tricks of the trade when it comes to getting a wax and whilst you may think you know them all, there’s bound to be one or two that you aren’t aware of. Waiting a month between visits and always using a sharp blade are some of the more obvious tips but what else is there to know?

  1. The matter of age

The earlier you start waxing, the thinner your hair will be by the time you get older. This means that you will have a pain-free waxing experience for longer. Getting it done professionally in the earlier years is a great way to reduce the pain and also the fear of doing it yourself whilst your hairs are still thick.

  1. Relieving the pain

Some people are more sensitive than others when it comes to their skin and so need to take extra measures to reduce the pain. If you think that you can relate to this, take paracetamol one hour before the wax and by the time it comes around you will feel a lot less pain.

  1. Hard vs soft wax

The type of wax used depends on the area that is being done. Soft wax is used in conjunction with a cotton cloth and is great for larger areas as they can be done quickly. However, for smaller, more sensitive areas the hard wax is more suitable. Both go on soft but the hard wax hardens quickly and brings the hair out with the actual wax itself.

  1. Stay out of the sun

Following the wax, your skin is going to be a little bit more sensitive than usual. In order to ensure you don’t do further damage to your skin, stay out of the sun for the next day or so and apply a hydrocortisone cream to the area to help it calm down.

  1. No Retinol

This is a critical piece of information to ensure the longer term health of your skin. It is important that you do not use any retinol or strong acids on your face (or any part of your body really) just before or after a wax to that area. Doing this can take the skin off and will take a long time to heal, something that you certainly don’t want.

Following these simple tips every time you get a wax will ensure your skin remains healthy and glowing whilst you can be hair free!
